In 2012 Penthouse Hairdressing turned 30

Meet Our Artistic Team

GAVIN & KAREN

2012 was very special to Karen and Gavin Pound because they Celebrated 30 years with their salon, ‘Penthouse Hairdressing’, in Bunbury. Named ‘Penthouse’ because the only place available to rent back in 1982 was on the top floor of  133 Victoria St, (therefore, a Penthouse suite), Karen and Gavin started with just one apprentice and plenty of enthusiasm.

Karen and Gavin have trained some 45 apprentices and some of the highlights have been having some compete and win in local and state competitions as well as having one apprentice represent W.A. in the Work skills Challenge in Melbourne and Intercoiffure National Guialme competitions at the National Conference.
In 2001, Penthouse Hairdressing was a state finalist in the Telstra Small Business Awards in the Under 20 employee’s category.
Over the years they have had their two children also come into the business with them,
They both left Bunbury to travel and work in different surrounds,   Daniel has since branched out to become a self-employed Glazier… Lisa re-joined her mum and dad back behind the chair to once again to be one of the members of the family business.

Our beloved Karen left this world in July 2021, everyone misses her very much. Gavin and Lisa are now continuing running the salon with her watching over and guiding everyone in the right direction.

LISA

Lisa started her apprenticeship with her parents Gavin and Karen after leaving year 11. Lisa completed her apprenticeship and continued to help run the two salons that Penthouse Hairdressing had at the time.  Lisa was cutting a family friends hair one day when he asked her if she would like to go out to lunch, she accepted the invitation and the story continues to this day, Lisa and Stephen married and decided they would like to start a family, Sam their first son was born, however as Stephen was working for Wesfarmers this meant they would be moving away, first stop Tambellup.  Lisa set her own little salon up in Tambellup as there was no one there doing hairdressing, it was a good move as they didn’t take long to get into the community, lots of moves to follow, Moora, Kojonup then Southern Cross working and managing salons along the way, however with their family growing fast the decision to come back to Bunbury was made.
Lisa came back to the salon in 2012 and is enjoying the company of the clients and we love having her back….
Her spare time is all about the family, football, motor bikes, cows, but they all enjoy the outdoors camping and entertaining.

A very talented hairdresser (Gavin) once told me “you will never work a day in your life if you love the job you do” and he was 100% right….!
Dreams really do come true.”

We also have 2 new juniors Peta and Sarah, we welcome them both into the salon and wish them all the luck in continuing their profession.
